BMS/EPMS Subject Matter Expert (SME)–Mission Critical

Telios Corporation is an engineering services firm specializing in the design of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) building systems. We support a wide range of markets with a particular emphasis on mission critical facilities, delivering high-quality, reliable, and scalable solutions for our clients. We are seeking an experienced BMS/EPMS Subject Matter Expert (SME) to support our Mission Critical teams in Dallas and Kansas City. This role will serve as a technical leader, advisor, and key point of contact for building automation and power monitoring systems across complex data center projects. The BMS / EPMS SME will work closely with in-house engineering teams, clients, ownership, and external stakeholders to support the design, installation, integration, commissioning, and handover of Building Management Systems (BMS) and Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS). This individual will play a critical role in defining project scope, objectives, and deliverables; overseeing system integration across mechanical, electrical, and lighting systems; and ensuring solutions align with mission critical operational requirements, industry standards, and client expectations

Responsibilities:

  • Technical Leadership & Advisory: Serve as the technical authority for BMS and EPMS systems on mission critical projects; provide expert guidance to internal engineering teams during system planning, design development, and construction documentation; advise clients and project stakeholders on BMS/EPMS strategies, system architecture, redundancy, scalability, and long-term operational considerations
  • Project Execution & Oversight: Support the development and management of project scope, schedules, budgets, and resource plans related to BMS/EPMS systems; lead and participate in BMS/EPMS design reviews, ensuring compliance with project specifications, applicable codes, and industry standards; oversee system installation, testing, commissioning, and turnover activities in coordination with commissioning agents and contractors
  • System Integration & Coordination: Ensure effective integration of BMS with EPMS, electrical distribution systems, HVAC systems, and lighting controls; Coordinate closely with mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering disciplines to resolve interface and integration challenges; Support construction administration activities, including submittal reviews, RFIs, site observations, and issue resolution
  • Client & Stakeholder Engagement: Serve as a primary technical point of contact for clients, general contractors, engineers, subcontractors, and vendors; lead or support project coordination meetings related to controls, automation, and monitoring systems; assist clients during system acceptance, training, and handover to operations teams
  • Vendor & Technology Management: Support vendor evaluation and selection, including review of system capabilities, compliance, and lifecycle considerations; stay current on emerging BMS/EPMS technologies, platforms, cybersecurity considerations, and mission critical best practices; contribute to the development of internal standards, guidelines, and lessons learned for BMS/EPMS systems

Minimum Criteria:

  • A minimum of an associate’s degree, technical school certification, or equivalent professional training in controls, automation, or power monitoring systems, with demonstrated progression into senior-level BMS/EPMS responsibilities
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience working with BMS and/or EPMS systems, preferably within mission critical or data center environments
  • Demonstrated work experience supporting the design, installation, integration, and commissioning of building automation and monitoring systems
  • Demonstrated work experience supporting data center infrastructure systems, including exposure to redundancy architectures and operational reliability requirements across power, cooling, and monitoring systems
  • Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with major BMS and EPMS platforms (e.g., Schneider Electric, Siemens, Johnson Controls, Honeywell, Vertiv, Eaton, etc.)
  • Familiarity with commissioning processes, sequences of operation, and functional performance testing
  • Knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and guidelines (ASHRAE, NFPA, IEEE, Uptime Institute, etc.)
  • Experience developing standards, specifications, or design guidelines for controls and monitoring systems
